Christmas Cheer!

There was a very good turnout for the Carol Service on 18th December on what was a cold, but dry, evening. The first carol was sung in St. Andrew's Church following which there was a lantern procession to the Baptist Church led by the Colchester Salvation Army Band. There was more carol singing in the Baptist Church car park and those attending also enjoyed hearing the children from the Primary School perform a selection of Christmas songs. After the Service it was back to the Village Hall to warm up with coffee and mince pies.

The award for the Best Seasonal Decorated Business Premises in the High Street went this year to Illusions for their seasonal window display. ABCO and Simon Kleyn Opticians were highly commended.

The new award for the Good Citizen of Earls Colne was given to Mr. John Scillitoe of Homefield Way for his help with keeping the village clean and tidy during 2007.

A Village Design Statement for Earls Colne

For the past three years a small committee formed from parishioners and members of Earls Colne Parish Council, have been compiling a Village Design Statement. This document describes Earls Colne as it is now and puts forward guidelines as to how the villagers would like to see it in the future. Public consultation took place in the form of a questionnaire in 2005 and several public exhibitions. Braintree District Council have accepted the document as part of Material Planning Consent.

We received a grant from the Community Planning Fund enabling us to have copies printed for every household in Earls Colne, we hope to deliver these between Christmas and the New Year.
