For those new to the Village...

Earls Colne is a large village near the Essex/Suffolk borders. It is located on the A1124 four miles east of Halstead, map of Earls Colne. The village is a thriving community with a variety of shops, a library, three places of worship, large village hall, recreation centre and scout hut. There are pubs and restaurants and a good mix of businesses both within the main village and up on the airfield business park.

Earls Colne was first mentioned in the Domesday Book, however there is archaeological evidence of previous Stone Age and Roman occupation. The area has remained inhabited continually and has grown into the largest of the four 'Colne' villages.

For detailed information about Earls Colne's past, present and future, see the digital edition of the Village Design Statement available from Braintree District Council's website.
